[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE] (November 19, 2007) This week the Freedom Foundation received a grant from the Wachovia Foundation to help with the completion of the exterior renovations that are currently underway. “We appreciate the support the Wachovia Foundation gave us, and are looking forward to partnering with them more in the future,” said Rebecca Armstrong, Grant Manager. “It is always encouraging when a local business joins forces with you to help complete a worthy project which will benefit the entire community.” The Foundation’s grant writing team will continue to work to submit grants and raise funds for the renovation and restoration project of the Tepper’s building in downtown Selma. Currently, bids are being requested to finish repainting the exterior of the building, including the historical “Tepper’s” sign on the South side of the building. “The Tepper’s building is a historic landmark in Selma. The Freedom Foundation bought this building with the intention of restoring it and giving it back to the city as a gift and beacon of hope and light,” said Mark Duke, President, Freedom Foundation. “We are glad that we get to be a part of bringing life back to the downtown and historic districts of Selma.” “Wachovia is committed to the giving back to the communities where our customers and employees live and work. We, at Wachovia, are excited about the Freedom Foundation coming to Selma and investing in the revitalization of downtown,” said Andy Stewart, Market President of Wachovia. The Wachovia Foundation is a private foundation that is funded annually by Wachovia Corporation, and focuses on two primary areas: education and community development. Their mission is to build strong and vibrant communities, improve the quality of life, and make a positive difference in communities where Wachovia operates. The Freedom Foundation is a non-profit organization that has relocated its national headquarters to Selma, AL. The foundation’s mission is to help bring the community together through programs such as youth activities, positive radio programming and restoring the Tepper’s building into a community center.
