[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE] (January 11, 2008) Random Acts of Theatre Company, a new theatre company in Selma, is pleased to announce auditions for their first production, "Footloose: The Musical." Auditions are open to all ages in the community and will be held January 25-26 at the Striplin Performing Arts Center. Call 334.413.0942 to schedule an audition time. Auditioners are asked to prepare a song or part of a song (with music), and bring a dance combination (any style) or be prepared to learn one. There are also non-singing and non-dancing roles available, as well as crew and backstage positions. “I have met so many talented and interested people here in the community; it’s made me extremely excited about Random Acts of Theatre’s first production. With so much energy and enthusiasm, "Footloose" can’t help but be a fantastic show,” said Amanda Farnsworth, Random Acts of Theatre founder and Artistic Director. Ms. Farnsworth has more than 10 years of professional experience in theatre in Denver, Colorado, and has directed, music directed, performed in or conducted nearly 50 musical productions during that time. She studied performance and directing at the University of Northern Colorado. “'Footloose' is going to be an incredible musical! Between the live band and the dance numbers, the audience won’t be able to stay in their seats,” said Ms. Farnsworth. Based on the 1984 hit movie, "Footloose" is the story of a big-city kid (Ren McCormack) who moves to a small Southern town, where he’s in for a real culture shock. Though he tries to fit in, there is trouble beneath the surface of this peaceful town: the streetwise Ren finds himself in a place where rock music and dancing have been outlawed. His classmates and friends feel the laws are unfair, but only Ren has the courage to initiate a battle for justice with the local powers that be. Together they start a revolution, fight oppression, fall in love, dance their feet loose, and ultimately revitalize the spirit of the town. This high-energy musical is filled with well-known hit songs such as “Footloose,” “Let’s Hear It for the Boy,” and “Almost Paradise,” as well as several new numbers.
