[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE]

Selma High School Classrooms Get a Fresh Coat of Paint

(July 21, 2008) This week the Freedom Foundation is partnering with the Selma City School System to give nearly 50 classrooms in Selma High School a fresh coat of paint. Volunteer groups from different churches, civic organizations and community members throughout Selma, as wells as volunteers from Congressman Arturo Davis’ office, are also taking part in adopting a classroom to repaint.

“We often hear about the condition of Selma High School and saw this as a great opportunity for the community to come together and make a difference for the students,” said Mark Duke, Freedom Foundation President. “There are dozens of volunteers working 14 hour days to complete the goal of having all 48 classrooms repainted in one week.”

"This project has been an excellent opportunity for the community to organize and partner in this worthwhile effort. When blacks and whites work together it shows what a difference it makes in the lives of these children," said Lorraine Capers, Truant Officer for Selma City Schools.

The Facelift Painting Project is this week, July 21-26, and Selma High School will be open and painting supervisors are in the building every day from 8:00 am until 10:00 pm. Volunteers are asked to come, bring whatever materials they have available, and the Selma City School System will supply the paint and remaining supplies. Everyone is welcome!
