[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE] (August 14, 2007) On Friday night, the Police Athletic League was the big winner at the Back 2 School Basketball Blowout. Mark Duke, the “Dukester,” shot on behalf of P.A.L.S. in the final round of the shoot out. Draining nine NBA 3-point shots, Duke won the competition on behalf of P.A.L.S., who received $1,000 toward their PALS center. “The only regret I have is missing those six shots. I should have made all 15 baskets,” Duke joked. “I wanted to shot on behalf of PALS because they are working hard in the community and I know they need the support. The Freedom Foundation hosted the Back 2 School Basketball Blowout for a fun community event to bring people together. Sammy Stephens, known for his “Just like a mini mall” jingle made a special performance (visit www.youtube.com to view video of the evening), audience members participated in games and 10 charities were a part of the 3-point shoot out for $1,000. “The Freedom Foundation has come to Selma to help support organizations that are working to better the community. We wanted to host an event that brought all section of the community together for a positive evening,” said Duke. The Freedom Foundation is a non-profit organization that has recently relocated its national headquarters to Selma, AL. The foundation’s mission is to help bring the community together through programs such as youth activities, community-wide events, positive radio programming and restoring the downtown Tepper’s building into a community center.
