[FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE] (August 16, 2007) This week the Freedom Foundation received a grant from the Daniel Foundation of Alabama to help with the completion of the exterior renovations that are currently underway. “We appreciate the support the Daniel Foundation of Alabama gave us, and are looking forward to partnering with them in the future,” said Rebecca Armstrong, Grant Manager. “It is always encouraging when another organization joins forces with you to help complete a worthy project.” The Foundation’s grant writing team will continue to work to submit grants and raise funds for the renovation and restoration project of the Tepper’s building in downtown Selma, AL. Currently, contractor Tommy Williams is working to repaint the exterior of the building, including the historical “Tepper’s” sign on the South side of the building. He is also working to repair and restore the windows on the façade and the project is scheduled to be complete in approximately four weeks. “The Tepper’s building is a historic landmark in Selma. The Freedom Foundation bought this building with the intention of restoring it and giving it back to the city as a gift and beacon of hope and light,” said Mark Duke, President. The Tepper’s building is an anchor in the downtown shopping district, and with the recent announcement of the $1 million dollar investment in the Selma Interpretive Center on Broad and Water Ave, the economic development of downtown appears to have turned a corner. “We are glad that we get to be a part of bringing life back the downtown and historic districts of Selma. The Tepper’s building is going to be beautiful when it is complete,” said Duke. The Freedom Foundation is a non-profit organization that has recently relocated its national headquarters to Selma, AL. The foundation’s mission is to help bring the community together through programs such as youth activities, positive radio programming and restoring the Tepper’s building into a community center.
