As the Foundation became more familiar with the city, the Board of Directors took deliberate steps to consider potential roles for the Foundation in Selma. After careful consideration and much prayer, coupled with support from key community leaders and everyday residents, several board members and volunteers moved to Selma in January 2007 to support the community, and to initiate several community development projects. During 2007, more than 50 volunteers from the Freedom Foundation in Parker, CO relocated to Selma because they believed in the vision for the city, and they wanted to be a part of the work happening there.
Those who relocated are enthusiastic about being a part of the community, and have given of themselves to the community. Volunteers work in a variety of places throughout the city, such as the Selma City Schools, Dallas County Schools, Selma Police Department, YMCA, Dallas County Children's Policy Council, and downtown stores.
While in Selma, more than 50 local residents have also become volunteers with the Foundation. It is this dedicated group of more than 100 individuals that makes the Foundation what it is.
